What Happens if the Person I Bail out Doesn’t Appear in Court?
If the defendant fails to appear in court for their hearing, the bond is forfeited and a ‘failure to appear’ will be marked on their record. A bench warrant is issued by the judge for the immediate arrest of the defendant. The bail bondsman then has six months to return the defendant to court, or will be required to pay the full bond amount. The individual who signed the bail contract is then contacted for help in finding the defendant.
